Recently, the Greymoor and Update 26 launced on PC. With this update, the Malacath's Band of Brutality was added to the game. This set gives a 1-piece item bonus of increasing your damage by 25% but you cannot critically strike. Is this set worth it?
To test if it is worth it, we use a theoretical approach, rather than play testing the set. This means we will use simple mathematics to calculate the damage. We will assume no other bonusses to damage are applied and no reductions to damages apply - such as penetration and resistance levels. We also ignore the fact that this one set piece may sactifice item bonuses from other sets that increase damage - such as maximum resource pools and spell/weapon damage stats.
Let us assume our normal damage (Ndamage) = 2,000. This will mean that our critical damage (Cdamage) = 3,000.
Cdamage = Ndamage * 1.5, such that Cdamage = 2,000 * 1.5 = 3,000.
With Malacath's Band of Brutality (MBB) our damage will be lower because we cannot critical damage the enemy. This will reduce our damage to 2,500.
MBBdamage = Ndamage * 1.25 = 2,000 * 1.25 = 2,500, such that MBBdamage = 2,000 * 1.25 = 2,500.
Does this mean that Malacath's Band of Brutality is always worse? With this data, one would conclude that it always will be worse. However, if we take critical strike chance into account, this conclusion may change.
Until now, we considered only one hit (N = 1). Now let us consider 100 hits (N = 100) and a critical strike chance of 50%. Meaning that every hit has the probability of critically striking of 0.5. If we approach N = ∞ (infinity), about 50% of ∞ (infinity) will critically strike. Therefore, we assume that of the 100 hits, 50% will critically strike. In real situations, this may be lower or higher. This means that with N = 100, 50 will critically strike. We will call these critical strikes Ncrit and the critical strike chance Cchance. This means that our total damage (Tdamage) will be 250,000.
Tdamage = Ndamage * (N - Ncrit) + Cdamage * Ncrit = 2,000 * (100 - 50) + 2,500 * 50 = 250,000
with Ncrit = N * (1 - Cchance) = 100 * (1 - 50%) = 50
When we use Malacath's Band of Brutality and deal 25% more normal damage but cannot critically strike with 100 hits (N = 100), we get the same amount of damage: 250,000.
Tdamage = MBBdamage * N = 2,500 * 100 = 250,000
This means that when our critical strike chance is 50%, the total damage is equal to the total damage when we wear Malacath's Band of Brutality and get 25% more normal damage but cannot critically strike. When we further evaluate both situations, we find that when our critical strike chance is greater than 50% our total damage is greater than the total damage wearing Malacath's Band of Brutality. However, when our critical strike chance is smaller than 50%, Malacath's Band of Brutality will outperform in terms of damage.
When critical strike chance < 50%, Malacath's Band of Brutality outperforms relying on critical damage.
When critical strike chance = 50%, the damage is equal.
When critical strike chance > 50%, relying on critical damage outperforms wearing Malacath's Band of Brutality.
These hypotheses, however, will need field testing to find evidence for them or reject them. Therefore, these statistics only give an estimated indication of the behaviour of the total damage but not an exact indication.
Verdict: Malacath's Band of Brutality is only worth it when your critical strike chance is lower than 50%. Wearing Malacath's Band of Brutality when your critical strike chance is higher than 50% will result in lower performance than if we simply rely on critical striking the target.

Vampires are powerful creatures. Nobody can kill an already dead person. In this post we cover vampirism. First we will look at what vampires are in ESO. Second we will answer the question: How to become a vampire? Third we will analyse why you should become a vampire. Last we will cover the negative sides of being a vampire.
What is a vampire?
Vampires are not uncommon in The Elder Scrolls series. They play a large role in quests in Oblivion and Skyrim. This is not any different from The Elder Scrolls Online.
In ESO (or TESO) vampirism can both be a burden and blessing. Being a vampire in ESO does not affect the story in any way. It functions as an extra skill tree within the skills system. It features powerful passives and access to two active abilities and an ultimate ability.
Vampirism in ESO has four different stages increasing the severity of the negative effects of the disease, but also decreases costs of the abilities. This progress to the last stage (stage 4) happens over time. A vampire can feed to reduce the severity of the disease.
How to become a vampire?
In ESO there are two ways to contract vampirism:
The first method is fighting NPC vampires. There is a small chance of becoming infected. This change supposedly is higher during full moon.
The second method is to be bitten by a player who is a vampire. This player has to unlock the 'Blood Ritual' passive before being able to. A player can only bite another player every 7 days.

Why should I become a vampire?
Undead cannot be killed, can they? Vampires are powerful and in The Elder Scrolls Online there is a reason for it. Their passive, active and ultimate abilities are very beneficial for magicka builds in certain situations.
The ultimate ability: Bat Swarm and it's morphs increases survivability significantly. Especially the Devouring Swarm morph offers AOE damage and self-healing. Often tanky builds use this ability to have some time to breath and recover resources.
Drain Essence is a special ability. Its morph Invigorating Drain is the only magicka ability that actively grants ultimate to the caster. It also is a stun and self-heal.
Mist Form offers vampires a cleanse of all negative effects, but also increases movability on the field. It reduces damage taken by a stunning 75%. The trade-off is no magicka recovery and the caster cannot activate any ability while it is active.
The passive abilities grant the player with more stamina and magicka recovery, reduced damage taken while under 30% up to 33% and ignore movement speed penatly while in sneak.
Why should I not become a vampire?
Vampires do not like daylight, and fire. The benefits of being a vampire do not come without cost. The severity of the disease becomes more significant every stage. Health recovery plummets and the damage taken from fire goes through the roof.
A vampire has 75% less health recovery, although the Unnatural Resistance passive reduces that amount a little. The increased fire damage taken (up to 25% more) is a real pain in dungeons where a lot of fire damage is pressence (e.g. Bloodroot Forge and City of Ash).
Another threath vampires encounter is the fact that they are Undead. The Fighters Guild skills and passives deal a massive amount of damage to Undead. Fighters Guild abilities can deal up to 20% additional damage to Undead enemies.
Should I become a vampire?
It heavily depends on the situation. If you are going to do PVP, vampirism can be very beneficial. The pros do outweigh the cons in my personal experience. In PVE however this is very different. There is a lot of fire damage in dungeons and trials. If you decide to go vampire in PVE anyway, the best stage is stage 2. At that stage you will get all the benefits but less severe negative effects.
The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion is iconic for its time. Especially glorified for the graphics, story and "fast travel" mechanics, it was a game that impressed many. Most memorable for most is the beautiful scenery in which the story took place, the scenery of Cyrodiil. In the Elder Scrolls Online we are back in Cyrodiil, although in an era before the story of Oblivion. The maps look very much alike, yet there are some noteworthy differences.
This keep of the Ebonheart Pact does not show any remains in the era of Oblivion. The only possible link is Lake Arrius. Which is located north of Cheydinhal.
Blue Road Keep
Yet again, Blue Road Keep is non-existant in the time the Oblivion crisis takes place. The road leading from the Imperial City to Cheydinhal is called The Blue Road, but that is the only reference to this keep.
This keep is located on the western side of The Reed River in ESO. It is the most southern home keep of the Ebonheart Pact. In Oblivion the remains of the keep are not to be found. Instead we find the settlement of Drakelowe. It is a tiny settlement, only containing one house and only one habitant called Melisande.
Located east of the Temple of the Ancestor Moths, Kingscrest Keep is the most northern home keep of the Ebonheart Pact. Remains of this keep are not found on the Oblivion map.
An outpost in ESO, but a medium-sized fort in Oblivion. Located south from Blue Road Keep it seems to have moved location for gameplay purposes. The remains found in Oblivion are located far more to the east than in the online version.
A fort in both version of Cyrodiil. However the location of Fort Ash in the Online version seems to be at nearly, if not exactly, the same location of Fort Nikel in the Oblivion version. Which obviously was done for gameplay purposes.
Once a magnificant keep in the Alliance War, only a small town or village in the Oblivion game. The town or village consists of only two houses. This wasn't always the case. Aleswel once was a large village but all villagers were evicted on pain of death by Grand Warlord Dortene of the Daggerfall Covenant. There are no remains of the fort to be found in the Oblivion game.
The most northern fortification in The Elder Scrolls Online, only a rock in The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion. At this location the road looks like a dead end. However a road leads to the east, eventually leading you to the Serpent's Trail and Pale Pass. It ends at Fort Pale Pass, the entry way into Skyrim which we visit in the Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim.
Fort Glademist was abandoned after the Alliance War. Nothing remained of the fort and the only references one can find in the Oblivion game is the fact that it is located in the Glademist Fields area. In which Glademist cave is located, a cave network used by the Blackwood Company.
No remains can be found of this fort in Oblivion. It probably was abandoned after the Alliance War, neglected and has fallen into ruins.
This outpost is located between Chalman Keep and Fort Aleswell. The village of Bleaker's Way was first settled by Ulf the Bleaker. In the times of the Alliance War, the villagers were ordered to leave the village. Those who refused would be punished with death. During the war giants occupied the village. In Oblivion the village was reclaimed by men. There are no remains of Bleaker's Outpost in Oblivion.
The only remains of Castle Brindle in Oblivion is Brindle Home. Which is a village located between Chorrol and Skingrad. The location of Castle Brindle relative to Brindle Home seems to be far more south, probably for gameplay purposes. The castle seems to be located near The Gold Road, which connects Skingrad with the Red Ring Road around the Imperial City.
There are no remains of Castle Bloodmayne in The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion. The only reference that can be found is Bloodmayne Cave, which also is a delve (mini-dungeon) in ESO.
Castle Faregyl is a key location of the Aldmeri Dominion. The castle can not be found in the Oblivion. Instead we find Faregyl Inn, located west of The Green Road which leads from the Imperial City to Bravil. No remains of the castle can be found which was located on the east side of The Green Road.
The castle of Roebeck is located perfectly on the map. However in Oblivion the castle is located near the White Rose River. This river could have formed after the era the Alliance War takes place in, because nothing of this river can be found in the Online version. There are some bridges to be found that cross dried up riverbanks. This could be the White Rose River.
An outpost located south of Fort Ash and north-west of Castle Roebeck. In Oblivion we find the remains of this outpost in the form of a small fort. The location of Nikel is the most noteworthy. In Oblivion it is located next to the bridge leading into the Imperial City, west of the village of Weye. In the Online version the outpost is located far more south, near Fort Virtue on the Oblivion map.

1: Action Duration Reminder - by cloudor
You are a brave person and visit dungeons very often. No matter whether you are a Damage Dealer (DD), Healer or Tank: Action Duration Reminder is a must have addon for any ESO player.
Action Duration Reminder does exactly what you expect it to do. It shows a numerical timer on each (over time) ability you activate. Reminding you when your Damage over Time ability or Area of Effect ability has to be replaced on the boss. This addon is a nice addition to the game due to it improving your damage and skill rotation.
2: RaidNotifier - by Kyoma
Many PVE guild participate in the weekly Trial. RaidNotifier is a nice addition to the game and warns you for any dangers that are ahead.
Instead of having to rely on visuals or audio, RaidNotifier will warn you for any danger that may one-shot you. When a boss targets you, you get an on-screen notification that you are targeted by the boss. With this addon you will never be too late blocking or healing yourself through that most difficult part of the trial.
3: Shissu's Guild Tools - by Shissu
Whether you run a guild or are high in rank, Shissu's Guild Tools will help you manage your guild. This addon has many features that are missing in the base game.
The addon comes with a large list of improvements to the guild windows. Here is just a short list of the most useful and powerful tools this addon has to offer:

4: Inventory Insight - by manavortex
We've all experienced it: You have a few characters and you just want to rebuild one of them. You start looking for which gear you want to use. So, you start farming the gear or use the quick route of purchasing the gear in a guild store. After hours of farming or spending thousands of coins, you find out that you already own that set item you so desperately needed on another character.
Luckily those times are over with Inventory Insight. This addon opens up a new window when you take a look inside your inventory, (guild) bank or guild store. In this window are all the items you own. You can filter them in categories or filter by text search. Hovering the item shows you how many of the item you own and which character or bank has the item. A must have that could save you hours of relogging to find that one item you had on that one character, but you don't remember on which. It also could save you hours of farming or prevent you from spending coin unnecessary.
5: AwesomeGuildStore - by sinrinsidiator
Everybody knows about guild store addons like Master Merchant (MM) by Philgo68 or
Tamriel Trade Centre (TTC) by cyxui, but these addons are missing a crucial component. The addon that makes selling and buying items easy is AwesomeGuildStore.
This addon, other than MM and TTC, does not show you prices or the amount sold this week or in the past 180 days. AwesomeGuildStores makes selling much easier by altering the listing screen in the guild store window. It allows you to set the quantity, unit price and total price, but also has options to set the price to an average or last sold price.
The buying part of this addon is even greater. It allows you to filter the items in categories, eg. jewelry only or recipe only. Besides that you can filter the price range, Champion Points range, quality range, unit price range and even filter by text. And it doesn't end there. AwesomeGuildStore allows you to filter per armor/weapon/jewelry/etc. type, trait and enchantment. The addon can even filter out all the recipes and motifs you already know, so you can easily browse those items you can still learn on your character.
AwesomeGuildStore is a must have addon to make coin, maybe even more important than having MM or TTC. Thus a highly recommended addon with more features on the download page.
After playing hours upon hours of PVP in The Elder Scrolls Online, here is a list of 10 reasons why you shouldn't play PVP in ESO. Simply because of balance issues, broken sets and poor mapdesign.
The current meta only consists out of zerging. As a solo player or small group you don't stand a chance in any situation. The game is build around zerging only and massive combat. The only way of beating another raid is by having a larger raid than the enemy or time all your abilities to go off at the same time.
Due to the focus of the game being on zerging and large raids, only high damage AOE abilities are viable to run. Any other abilites are rendered useless. Especially single target abilities are useless to run when you face 50+ enemy players at once. Most used are Proximity Detonation, Eye of Flame and Sap Essence. Worst about these abilities is that they all follow the caster. While most other abilities are ground based and are totally neglected by most PVP raids due to their underwhelming performance in most situations.
3. Healing bots
Yes, you read that right: healing bots. However these are not actual computer programs but players dedicated to healing and purging only. The game allows you to heal indefinately whilst being tanky at the same time. From own experience a healing bot is most often a Templar which is able to permablock whilst casting abilities. It also results into raids running permapurgers too. Rendering all damage over time into oblivion.
In the current version of the game (3.0.9) you are able to cast abilities whilst blocking. Which allows many classes and builds to be more tanky than ever intended. Especially healing bots benefit from blockcasting, since this allows them to reduce incoming damage whilst sustaining enough heals to survive massive damage.
Procsets have been semi-nerfed in the past by making them not able to critical damage. However many builds show that procsets are still overpowered in PVP. Dealing so much damage that most casual players won't even realise what hit them before turning into a pile of ash. For example the Worbels Revenge build by Fengrush shows how broken these sets are.

How to capture a keep? How to capture a fort? How to capture a castle? Each alliance in The Elder Scrolls Online (eso) has their homekeeps to hold and enemy keeps to take. No matter if you call them keeps, forts or castles, this is what pvp is mostly focussed around. So how do you capture a keep? What is the best method of taking a keep? What should I keep in mind when I try to siege a keep? In this blogpost I will try to answer those questions as best as I can.
Nothing is more satisfying than turning your enemies into piles of ash or shatter them into small frozen pieces. The destruction staff comes in three variants: lighting, frost and fire. Even though they are often used in PVP in combination with a restoration staff, two destruction staffs can create a powerful harmony. However it may still be hard to understand why certain staff combinations create such harmony in DPS. Which destruction staff should you use? How do they form synergy? What weapon skills should I use?
Either by massive bleeding, blunt force or sliced into pieces. The two-handed weapons offer strong and reliable burst damage. But what makes the two-handed weapon excel? Is it better to run an axe, mace or sword? How to get maximum potential out of these weapons? And what morphs should I go for? Critical rush or stampede? Dizzying swing or wrecking blow?
With the Morrowind Patch of June this year, a lot of new content will be added. From Battlegrounds to 30+ hours of PVE content. Most noticable is the (re)introduction of the Warden class.
The Warden class was a class available in the Bèta of The Elder Scrolls Online. Back then the class was mostly focussed on healing. The Templar however rendered this class oblivious and the class was removed from the game.
However the Warden class is making a return into Tamriel. The class has been reworked and can be played in three different ways. The Animal Companion skills are based on fauna. Summoning multiple beasts to compete against enemies. The healer aspect of the Warden is called Green Balance. These skills are nature based and include mostly ranged heals. The last way to play the Warden is a bit different and is called Winter's Embrace. It's focus is clearly put on Frost abilities. It would be correct to state the cryomancer will finaly make an entry into the game. And is mostly about tanking and protecting allies.

ZeniMax Online Studios is working on this huge project called: The Elder Scrolls Online (ESO). And many aspects of the game have changed since the first launch in 2014. The Champion Points system is in place and much new content has been added ever since. With that, the game is becoming more and more complex for both the players and developer. In this blogpost we discuss the current meta in this special arena: the Player versus Player (PvP) arena.
Today, the Shadows of the Hist DLC patch is live. Patch 11 it is also called and it comes with pleasant changes and fixes to the base game. Especially the races of the game see small changes and major bugs have been fixed with this patch.
Update 11 features four new dungeons and changes/fixes to already existing dungeons. Allowing for PVE players to explore new grounds and fight new bosses.
Also in the Crown store players will be able to change their appearance and/or race through the use of Tokens. The update also comes with Tokens to change your name and Premium Hairstyles, Adornments, & Markings. ESO Plus members will also be able to use custom dies.
