Expert 1: Healer
In this tutorial you will:
- Learn to become a reliable healer
Step 1
Step 1: Race
Specialisation is very important in The Elder Scrolls Online. There are three kinds of roles one can play. First there is the Damage Dealer, second the Healer and last the Tank. In this tutorial we will focus on becoming a Healer, which the entire group can rely on.
Which race should you go for?
The race you choose will need passives that boost either your pool of Magicka, Magicka regeneration rate or Healing abilities.
There are three options for playing a Healer. These are the best options, but you are free to choose another race if you like. Each race is allocated to another Alliance. Meaning that there always is a race available in your alliance, which would be best off being a Healer. Below we will take a closer look at the passives of these races per Alliance.

Altmer (High Elf)
If you play in the Aldmeri Dominion, the Altmer would be the best choice for the role of Healer. The Altmer have a larger pool of Magicka than other races in the Dominion and a higher Magicka Recovery rate. Which allows for casting more healing spells than other races in the Dominion |
Argonian
If you play in the Ebonheart Pact, the Argonian would be the best choice for the role of Healer. The Argonian race has increased experience gained for the Restoration Staff Skill line. Also the use of potions can increase your Max Magicka up to 6%. Also the increased healing received and extra posion and disease resistance can keep you just a little longer alive in tough situations. |
NOTE:
- An alternative for the Ebonheart Pact would be the Dunmer (Dark Elf), which has two passives increasing Max Magicka.

Step 2
Step 2: Class
Which class should a Healer pick? There is only one best class to pick. This is the Templar class. Yes, you can become a Healer with any class using a Restoration Staff. However the Templar adds very powerful healing skills. The skill line made for healing is the Restoring Light Skill line. The other skill lines within the class skills are more focussed on self-healing and damage dealing. So, which skills from the Restoring Light Skill line are critical for a powerful Healer?

Rememberance is a critical ultimate ability for Healers. It is an ability that will get you and your allies out of trouble when you run out of Magicka and need a quick heal for everyone.
Breath of Life is the best healing ability currently in the game. It heals yourself and three allies for great amounts. This ability is a must have and is recommended to be slotted on both two ability bars, binded to an easily reachable key.
Lingering Ritual is a decent healing ability. However it has a cast time of 2 seconds and a smaller radius than Breath of Life.
Repentance is basically a free heal for yourself and two allies. It passively increases regeneration of all your recources and increases those of your allies after you cast the ability. It however does require corpses to take effect.
Purifying Ritual is one of those highly recommended skills. Its strenght is the cleansing effect on you and your allies. The ground area it covers also heals your allies every 2 seconds for 12 seconds. Allies can active Purify to gain extra Health and remove one harmfull effect.
Channeled Focus is an ability that focusses on your own character. Its strenght is its increased Magicka recovery for 15 seconds. Even after leaving the area of effect, it remains active for 9 seconds. Granting you extra resources to cast healing abilities.

Step 3
Step 3: The restoration staff
The best weapon to pick for a Healer role is the Restoration Staff. The Restoration Staff offers another Skill line with healing abilities.

Healing Springs definately looks like a strong healing ability. However the only real benefit is the return of Magicka (780 max). Its healing power is only 744 Health after the duration of 3 seconds. Which is pretty weak at higher levels. For low levels, this healing ability is advised, not recommended. Spamming this ability would be beneficial.
Rapid Regeneration also does not a lot of healing for your allies. Especially when you consider the fact that it takes 16.5 seconds to heal 2196 Health for up to 2 allies. Which are ticks of 399 Health each 3 seconds. Which is slightly more powerful than the Healing Springs ability.
Combat Prayer is a powerful ability which is recommended for the Healer that also wants to buff his allies. Slamming down your staff will not only heal your allies, but also grant them great buffs. Especially the damage bonus for allies will boost your groups damage output.
Siphon Spirit is a nice single target ability. It focusses on one enemy and you and your allies will restore Health and Magicka for each attack against your enemy.

Step 4: Armor choice
Step 5
Step 5: Tips & Tricks
Tip 1 - Keep your distance
Most healing abilities have great range and do not require you to stay up and close to your allies. It also prevents you becoming the target of enemies.
Tip 2 - Spam that button
Breath of Life is the most powerful healing ability currently in the game. Binding this ability to a spot in the ability bar, to a key that is easily accessible and easy to spam, will greatly improve your performance in tight situations.
Tip 3 - The Spear of Stamina
The Templar Healer also has access to the Aedric Spear Skill line. Which makes the Blazing Spear (morphed Spear Shards) available. Allowing you to provide Stamina for your Stamina using allies. It also stuns enemies, resulting into less damage caused to your allies, leading into you having to heal less.
Tip 4 - Backlashing
The Templar Healer also has access to the Dawn's Wrath Skill line. Which includes the Purifying Light (morphed Backlash) ability. This ability stores all damage done to you for 6 seconds and heals allies for [x] Health each 2 seconds. Even after the effect, a pool of sunlight remains and restores [x] Health to you and your allies for 7.2 seconds every 2 seconds.
Tip 5 - Radiating heat
As a Templar Healer, you won't do a lot of damage. You however can still use the ability Radiant Oppression (morphed Radiant Destruction) from the Dawn's Wrath Skill line. This ability takes some time to cast, but does damage based upon your current available amount of Magicka. Of which, as a Healer, you have a lot.
Trick 1 - Double Restoration Staff
Having two Restoration Staffs equiped (on both bars) will allow you to regenerate Magicka more quickly. Because the Cycle of Life passive allows completing heavy attacks to restore some Magicka.
