This blog post requires a short introduction. I've been playing ESO since Beta and I am an ESO enthousiast. When I joined, I was especially interested in the PvP part of the game. Large scale combat on a large map. Ever since, however, the game had its ups and downs. The biggest 'down' is the server lag. Last year, in April 2020, I started a discussion outlining all the issues that are caused by server lag. This got a lot of response from other players in the game - who were experiencing the same issues. ZOS only moderated the discussion but never provided any feedback (I doubt if they ever read it). This year, I have been rage quitting from PvP more often than ever before. In the past 7 years - in which ZOS promised server improvements over and over again - ZOS only seemed to have push new content, and never actually fixed the server lag. Hence, I bumbed the discussion on the Forums to put it under attention again. This time, I also put it in more perspective by providing a shortlist of examples of discussions addressing the same issues over the past 7 years. My honest opinion is: if you want to play ESO because of PvP, don't buy the game. Get away from it as far as you can. Only buy this game if you want to do quests, dungeons or do some role playing. --------------- This line marks the beginning of the discussion I started on the Forums ---------------
August 2021: The same issues still exist today. I've also looked up some older discussions on this matter. It turns out that server lag is an issue that always existed. Take for example:
These posts are just a small selection of discussions on the Forums over the past 7 years. You (the reader) can make up your own mind about what this tells you. April 2020: This is probably one of a billion threats so far about the server lag. However, I wanted to mention that I have played this game since it was first available to the public, and I have seen some bad lag in the past. After a few weeks of not playing, I couldn't help but notice that the lag on the EU server currently is extremely bad. And I mean, really really really bad. I have never seen the lag is so bad in this game before. I have seen some hiccups where server lag was temporarily extreme but that was temporary. The current lag is constant and that makes a hugely different experience. Since ZOS wants to see constructive feedback on the game on the forums, I present the following issues caused by lag: - Abilities don't work by pressing the designated buttons unless you press them like a monkey on speed. - Dodging doesn't work - Getting stunned or knocked in the sky (such as with Take Flight) literally is delayed by several seconds and gets you glued to the ground for several seconds. - Snares completely glue you to the ground and disallow you to use any ability or form of movement. - Enemies dodging your attacks renders them invulnerable for not just a moment, but sometimes over 3-5 seconds. - Damaging abilities simply don't 'land' on the enemy. - Healing abilities simply do not heal or only after several seconds have passed. - NPCs are sometimes invulnerable and teleport (slide) over the ground for seconds after being stunned. - Mounting gets you stuck in the whistling part of the animation for seconds. - People are rubber banding on screen. - Random loading screens appear in the middle of nowhere. - NPCs sometimes just appear out of nothing or disappear into nothing. - Snare immunity abilities (e.g. from Forward Momentum) don't activate at all. - Hard CC immunity abilities don't activate most of the time. - Hard CC immunity after breaking free doesn't activate most of the time. - Breaking free doesn't work > half of the time. - Animations of abilities often do not work or do not show their visual effect when active. - Animations of abilities stop halfway through the animation, costing resources but not applying the effect from the abilities. - After dodge rolling, the ability bar greys out (a.k.a. you cannot activate abilities) for several seconds. - Activating/using a potion is often impossible unless you really spam the button. - Damage from abilities 'arrive' seconds after actually dealing the damage. (also received damage arrives seconds after being dealt to the receiver). - Health desyncs - Resource desyncs In short: the lag is killing the PvP game. It wouldn't hurt the game if some of the ESO: Plus money was actually spent on optimizing the servers or optimizing the games engine to reduce calculations needed on the server-side of the game. UPDATE for PvE issues: - Bosses lag out. - Skills do not fire. - NPCs are 'sliding' on the ground, and are often impossible to damage while they are 'sliding'. - Random serverside lag spikes instantly kill players. - Lots and lots of desyncs of resources (health, stamina, and magicka). - Delayed resource recovery. - Delayed damage 'hits' from direct damage abilities. - Delayed heal 'hits' from direct heal abilities. - Slow rendering of serverside content. - Rubberbanding of players. - Stuns caused by NPCs are delayed (delay between visual and actual effect). - CC immunity after hard CC often doesn't activate and leaves you open to a series of stuns (obviously caused by serverside lag) draining all your stamina (if you still have anything left). - Breaking free is sometimes 'blocked' even though the client-side of the game indicates that enough stamina resources are available. - Resources sometimes simply drain without reason. - Activating a buff or heal over time does play the visual but doesn't actually take into effect. - Activating potions: well..good luck with that, it is nearly impossible. - Light or heavy attack weaving is nearly impossible due to lag. - Health desyncs - Resource desyncs - Random loading screens in PVE environments in random locations - and the list continues... And as a disclaimer: - No, this is not an 'I quit threat'. - No, it is not my internet connection (Speedtest: 19 PR, 51.44 Mbps download, 20.64 Mbps upload, and no packet loss). - No, it is not because I am gaming via WiFi (I play al sorts of MMO games and they are all fine). - No, it is not my FPS (which is >30 all of the time, which is reasonable). - No, I do not own a potato (I can run Crisis on this, and I admit, old machine) - Yes, I tried disabling addons. - Yes, I tried repairing my game. - Yes, I tried reinstalling my game. - Yes, I tried clearing my computer's cache. - Yes, I tried restarting my computer.

Axe, sword or mace? An updated weapons short guide for martial arts in The Elder Scrolls Online2/7/2021 In the past, I wrote a post on two-handed axes, maces and swords. However, the game has moved forward and this guide needed an update. In this short guide, I will answer the question: do I need to equip an axe, sword or mace? In my previous post, I only focussed on two-handed weapons. In this short guide, I want to focus on martial weapons in general. More specifically, I will focus on two-handed weapons and dual wielding. I will cover bows and one-hand and shield in seperate guides. This guide was written for ESO v7.0.5 - Blackwood & Update 30. Weapon types Two-handed weapons and one-handed weapons (of which you equip two; i.e. dual wielding) are seperated in three distinct weapon types: axes (battle axes), swords (greatswords) and maces (mauls). The odd one in the room is the dagger, which is only avialable as a one-handed weapon. Each of these weapon types have their own unique effects. Axes and battle axes Axes used to apply bleeding damage to enemies. Now, axes increase critical damage done. Each axe increases your critical damage done by 4%. Since you can equip two axes, you can increase your critical damage done by 8% in total when you are dual wielding. The battle axe is the two-handed variant of the axe. This heavy weapon also used to apply bleeding damage to enemies. In the current version of the game, battle axes increase your critical damage done by 12%. As such, axes and battle axes are perfect for builds that focus on critical damage done. It is common practice in Player versus Environment (PvE) arenas to focus on high critical damage done to achieve a high damage per second (DPS). Hence, axes and battle axes are a great choice for PvE content. Critical damage done also plays a role in Player versus Player (PvP) arenas such as Battlegrounds and Cyrodiil. Stamina Nightblades who attack from the shadows (using Dark Cloak) are guaranteed to critically strike their unaware enemies. Furthermore, Magicka Nightblades, more specifically: bomblades, benefit a lot from the increased burst from critically striking their enemies. Hence, a bonus to their critical damage done is very beneficial to Nightblades in PvP. Increased critical damage done is even more beneficial for Nightblades when you consider their Assassination skill line passives. The Pressure Points passive increases critical ratings by 438 (increasing weapon and spell critical chance values) for each Assassin ability slottted. Hemorrhage furter increases critical damage done by 10% and gives access to the class unique Minor Savarage, increasing critical ratings by another 1314. Templars also benefit from increased critical damage bonuses because they get an extra class specific bonus to critical damage done (+12%) in the Aedric Spear passive Piercing Spear. Furthermore, Sorcerers benefit from their class specific bonus to increased critical strike chance from the Exploitation passive. Lastly, Wardens have a unique bonus to critical damage done against Chilled enemies. Glacial Presence increases the damage done to Chilled enemies by 10%. The increased critical damage done can also be stacked with other critical damage done bonuses. The Khajiit race, for exampel, has a critical damage done bonus of 12% (Feline Ambush passive). The Shadow mundus stone also increases critical damage done by 11%, which can by increased up to 17% by wearing gear with the Divines trait. With a focus on critical damage, increasing critical strike chance can also be beneficial. Hence, The Thief mundus stone may also be a good choice, which increases critical strike rating by 1333, and by 2167 when 7 Divines armor pieces are equiped. It may also be worth investing in gear that complements critical damage done. For example, gear that increases critical strike chance such as Mother's Sorrow set or Toothrow set. Or sets that increase critical damage done even further such as Archer's Mind set or Gryphon's Ferocity set. Or Mechanical Acuity set, which guarantees 100% critical striking for 5 seconds. Swords and Greatswords In the past, swords and greatswords increased the damage done by a certain percentage. In the current version of the game, however, this was changed to increased weapon and spell damage. As such, for dual wielding, each sword increase weapon and spell damage by 142. Equiping a two-handed greatsword increases your weapon and spell damage by 284. Due to the chances to proc (programmed random occurrence) sets, swords and greatswords play an important role. In general, all proc sets that deal direct damage to enemies scale from weapon and/or spell damage. As such, any bonus to weapon/spell damage is beneficial to increase the damage done by these proc sets. Equiping one or two swords (dual wielding) or a greatsword can therefore be the best choice when you want to get the full potential of damaging proc sets. Achieving a high weapon and/or spell damage is very popular in PvP arena's because it increases the potential of proc sets and increases damage and healing done from casting abilities. The idea behind this is pretty straight forward: You want to kill your enemy before they can kill you, or at least be able to recover from an enemy's attack. Since most people either go with a Stamina build or a Magicka build, it is common to either have high weapon damage or spell damage respectively. Some classes can achieve higher values more easily than others but, in general, it is not hard to achieve high values on any class. For example, the Dragonknight can cast an Earthen Heart ability to gain Minor Brutality (+10% weapon damage) from the Mountains Blessing passive, which is a unique class bonus that can only be accessed by Dragonknights or by means of Brutality Draining poisons. Templars also have a unique bonus to gain spell damage. Templars have access to Minor Sorcery (+10% spell damage) from the Illuminate passive. Sorcerers benefit from weapon and spell damage for each Storm Calling ability they have slotted due to the Expert Mage passive, increasing weapon and spell damage by 2% for each Storm Calling ability slotted. The Warrior mundus stone increases weapon damage and spell damage by 238 and with 7 Divines armor pieces, weapon damage and spell damage is increased by 389. Furthermore, the Orc race has a passive bonus to weapon damage with the Swift passive. High Elves receive a bonus to spell damage with the Elemental Talent passive. You can also stack more weapon damage by equiping Fighter's Guild abilities. The Slayer passive increases weapon damage by 3% for each Fighter's Guild ability slotted. Gear that complements a high weapon and/or spell damage include but are not limited to Hunding's Rage set, Rattlecage set, Burning Spellweave set, Briarheart set, Warrior's Fury set, Voidcaller set, and Clever Alchemist set. Maces and Mauls Maces and Mauls are blunt weapons but in ESO they offer armor penetration (not to be confused with physical or spell penetration). Armor penetration reduces both physical and spell resistance of a target. For dual wielding, each mace increases your armor penetration by 1650. As such, you can achieve 3300 armor penetration from dual wielding maces. Equiping a two-handed mace (also known as a maul) gives you 3300 armor penetration. Armor penetration is a mechanic in which you ignore your target's armor values (physical and spell resistance) but exclusively to your own benefit. In contrast, applying the Breach or Fracture debuff reduces your target's armor values (physical and spell resistance), which also means that your allies benefit from these debuffs. Maces and mauls allow you to ignore your target's resistance levels. I will illustrate this using a very simplified example. Suppose your target has 33100 resistance (which is approx. 50% mitigation), and you have no armor penetration. When you hit that target for 5000 damage, you will actually deal 5000 * (1 - .5) = 2500 damage. Now suppose you have 3300 armor penetration from dual wielding maces or equiping a maul. In that case you ignore 3300 armor of your target. Hence, for you, your target's resistance level is 33100 - 3300 = 29800 (which is approx. 45% mitigation). As such, the damage you deal to that target will be 5000 * (1 - .45) = 2750. As you can see, the damage when dual wielding maces or equiping a two-handed maul deals approx. 250 more damage to the target. Your damage increases with armor penetration. However, if your armor penetration exceeds the amount of resistance of your target, any armor penetration left is a waste. For example, if your armor penetration is 40000 (6900 higher than your target's 33100 resistance), this additional 6900 armor penetration has no extra benefits. Hence, it is useless to have an armor penetration that is higher than your target's resistance levels. Armor penetration is both useful in PvE arenas and PvP arenas. First, bosses and mobs have their own resistance levels. Hence, having armor penetration will increase your DPS in dungeons, trials, and overland content. In PvP, enemy players also have their own resistance levels, however, these values differ for each person. Every player has a base value for resistance but any additional resistance comes from a combination of equiped armor, (proc) set items, potions, etc. It is important to note that armor penetration does not ignore critical resistance levels, which is a unique resistance value that mitigates critical damage. As such, equiping axes or a maul on a so-called 'crit build' is, to some extend, useless. The best race for stacking penetration is the Woodelf. The Woodelves get physical and spell penetration from the Hunter's Eye passive. The best mundus stone is The Lover, which increases Physical and Spell Penetration by 2744 and increases Physical and Spell Penetration by 4489 with 7 Divines armor pieces. Set items that give more armor penetration are, for example, Spinner's Garments set, Spriggan's Thorns set, and Balorgh monster helm set. Daggers (dual wield)
Daggers are only beneficial when dual wielding. Each dagger increases your Critical Chance rating by 812. As such, daggers fall into a similar focus as axes and battle axes: they benefit builds that focus on dealing critical damage. In contrast to axes and battle axes, daggers do not increase critical damage done but increase the probability of dealing critical damage. For example, if you have a critical strike chance of 50%, there is a 50% probability that your damaging hit will critically strike. This does not mean that 50% of your damage is guaranteed to critically strike. It means that for every individual hit, there is a .5 probability to critically strike (as if you do a coin toss for every hit). In turn, this means that it is possible that when you deal 100 damaging hits, only 45% critically strike (even if you have 50% critical strike chance). On the other hand, this can also mean that 65% of your 100 hits critically strike. However, on average, after hundreds of hits, your hits will approach an average of 50% critical strikes. Which classes, races, set items, and mundus stone you can use to increase critical strike chance, have already been covered under the axes and battle axes section.

Hence I made this blog post on how to solve this Forums problem (for Google Chrome).
First of all, this is a Google Chrome browser fix that uses a Google Chrome extension. If you are using any other browser, this solution may not help. However, it is worth considering because extensions are also available in other browsers.
Using Mozilla Firefox? Read the Mozilla Firefox version of this fix. Using Microsoft Edge? Read the Microsoft Edge version of this fix. Credits to @Alucardo who provided this solution on the ESO Forums.
The problem: You are unable to view the Forums. This is probably caused by JavaScript, which makes the Forums invisible. The page only loads the background image.
The fix:
Step 1: Go to the Chrome Web Store in your browser: https://chrome.google.com/webstore/category/extensions Step 2: Search for "Stylish" by https://userstyles.org (see image below) Step 3: Add this extension to your browser. Disclaimer Adding extensions to your browser is at your own risk. I am not liable for any damage to the software, your hardware, or loss and risk of (personal) data as a consequence of adding extensions to your browser.
Step 4: In the top right corner of your browser, click on the extensions icon (see image below for example)
Step 5: Click on the Stylish icon (the extenstion should pop-up)
Step 6: Click on the three vertical dots, and select: create new style.
Step 7: A new tab should open, and you are presented with a section of empty code (see image below). In this field, add the following code.
Step 8: After the text "Applicable to", select "URLs starting with" from the drop-down menu.
Step 9: Enter "https://forums.elderscrollsonline.com/" into the input field behind it.
Step 10: Name the style in the top left.
Step 11: Save the style.
Step 12: Return to the ESO Forums page, and you should be able to see the Forums again.
If this guide/fix solved the problem for you, let me know in the comments below. Money, money, money. Like in many other MMOs, having and growing currency is paramount. In The Elder Scrolls Online, gold is your primary form of currency. Almost everything you buy in the game, involves the exchange of gold for goods. First and foremost, the best way to obtain a starting capital is by questing. You can easily accumulate a lot of gold by doing quests and side-quests. It is, however, not a necessity to have a starting capital because you can also decide to farm resources in the world from harvesting resource nodes. Selling resources via a Guild Trader is always a good way to get started with trading in ESO and make some cash but resource gathering also takes a lot of time. Resource gatheringBy far, selling resources is the most profitable way to make coin. You are trading time for in-game currency. You do not have the risks involved with procurement and making a wrong decision. There is always a need (market) for resources because many crafters do not want to spend their time gathering resources, and rather buy them straight from the market. In summary, resources are a low risk, low cost but time consuming method of making gold in ESO. The most desirable resources are CP150-160 materials, such as (in random order):
CraftingAnother profitable way of making gold in ESO, is crafting. Crafted items can be sold via Guild Traders and, generally speaking, have good margins. Crafting does not simply involve selling crafted items. Crafting also involves selling refined materials. For example, you can buy Rubedite Ore from other players and refine them into Rubedite Ingots and sell those to other players. Refining materials also randomly drops Tempers. Especially Legendary Tempers are valuable on the market, such as Tempering Alloy, Dreugh Wax, and Rosin. Crafting also gives access to deconstruction of items. Deconstructing items you collect through questing or dungeon delving or that you receive as rewards for PvP (Rewards for the Worthy), can be deconstructed for materials, including Tempers, Style materials, and Trait items. Some Style materials can sell for 300+ gold per piece and some Trait items can sell for 20.000+ such as Potent Nirncrux. Furthermore, Glyphs can also be deconstructed for Aspect, Essence, and Potency materials. Lastly, you can craft items and sell them on the market. The best craftable items to sell are consumables. Consumables are items that are one time use only. This means that after consumption, the item is gone forever and cannot be reused. For example, potions and poisons, foods and drinks, Glyphs, and crafted weapons and armor with 'unique' traits such as Nirnhoned. Please note that I did not include consumables such as recipes, motifs, and writs because, generally speaking, these cannot be crafted. What items should I craft and sell? Here are some options that, overall, sell often and with decent margins:
ResellingAnother option to make gold in ESO is by trading goods that other people put on for sale for a low price that can be resold for a higher price. In other words, you make use of market fluctuations. For example, every now and then, the prices for raw and refined materials deflate and inflate. To my experience, after a new DLC or Chapter has launched, prices for these materials tend to inflate and over time they deflate to a 'normalized' level. You could buy when the price is low and sell when the price is high. There is a lot of risk involved with this strategy because the price could also stay low or you could be buying at a high price when you are not aware of it. You could also check if people sell their items via Guild Traders for a discounted price. Some players list their items for a price that is far under the average selling price. Addons such as Master Merchant (MM) and Tamriel Trade Centre (TTC) can help you with that. If you spot an item at a Guild Trader that is way under price, you may want to buy it to resell it for an increased price. However, it is important to also take into account the selling frequency of such an item. Sometimes an item is simply put on the market at a low price because it doesn't sell. If you buy an item for what seems to be a great deal for reselling but the item doesn't sell, it can become a costly method. Meta itemsLastly, you can sell meta items. These are items that are part of the 'meta'. Every patch has its own meta. For example, in the current version of the game, the Inferno Staff of a Mother's Sorrow is very popular because of its critical rating benefits. The game has two meta's: a player versus environment meta, and a player versus player meta. Set items that are popular or hyped sell for inflated prices and more frequent than other set items. Obviously, these set items can only be sold if they are 'Bind on Equip' such as Overland set items. Setting your priceThe price depends highly on market mechanisms. If there is a high demand but low supply, prices generally inflate. When there is low demand and high supply, prices generally deflate. `Because the prices of items fluctuate over time, I will not provide you with a list of prices at which to sell your item at. My tactic is to underprice my items about 50 gold below my direct competitors in the Trading Guild. For example, if I see that person A sells a Truly Superb Glyph of Stamina for 2500 gold, I will list my item for 2450 gold. At some point, however, internal competition will drive prices below the procurement costs. Procurement involves the costs of purchasing (raw) materials to construct a Truly Superb Glyph of Stamina. At that point, you can choose to either go under the procurement cost and take a loss untill internal competition disappears because it is not profitable, or you stop selling the item yourself and look for alternatives. The former strategy is very costly however but it can create a temporal monopoly for you at your Trading Guild. Calculating profitsProfits are the most important metric when trading. Here are some formulae to help you find your profit and profit margin: REVENUE = Listing price * {1-([Listing price(0.01)]+[Listing price(0.07)])} A simplified version of this formula is: REVENUE = Listing price * .92 PROFIT = Revenue - Procurement costs The procurement costs is the sum of expenditure for buying resources, materials, and/or items. Some would call this the Costs of Goods Sold. PROFIT MARGIN (%) = (Revenue - Procurement costs)/Revenue If you want to sell based on a profit margin and want to know for how much you should list it, you have to reverse the formula for profit margin and correct for listing fee and house cut, which gives you the following formula: Listing price = {[( - Procurement costs) / (Profit margin decimal - 1)] / 92} * 100 For example, if you want to sell with a 20% profit margin for an item with a procurement cost of 20,000 gold, your imput would be: Listing price = {[( - 20,000) / (.20 - 1)] / 92} * 100 = 27,174 gold Learn from mistakesLearning from mistakes is important. So, here are some tips:
Are you looking for an MMO to play in 2020? Do you like The Elder Scrolls franchise? Look no further because the The Elder Scrolls Online (ESO) is having big issues. You would think that ESO is a great game, and don't get me wrong: it has some good content, but that is until you start noticing its flaws. Especially when you are into ESO for the Player vs Player (PvP) content, you will notice the performance- and server-related issues that are embedded in the core of the game. In this blog post, you will find a list of problems in ESO.
This Stamina Nightblade build for non-CP PvP is great for the Battlegrounds Deathmatch game mode but will also do well in the Flag Games and Land Grab matches. In this build you need Zaan, which drops in the Scalecaller Peak dungeon, and you need Stuhn's Favor, a crafted set from the Greymoor DLC in Western Skyrim. This setup has great damage, combined with deadly combo's, decent recovery, and good survivability. This build does not use Shadowy Disguise, which makes this build different from most Stamina Nightblade builds out there.
Recently, the Greymoor and Update 26 launced on PC. With this update, the Malacath's Band of Brutality was added to the game. This set gives a 1-piece item bonus of increasing your damage by 25% but you cannot critically strike. Is this set worth it? To test if it is worth it, we use a theoretical approach, rather than play testing the set. This means we will use simple mathematics to calculate the damage. We will assume no other bonusses to damage are applied and no reductions to damages apply - such as penetration and resistance levels. We also ignore the fact that this one set piece may sactifice item bonuses from other sets that increase damage - such as maximum resource pools and spell/weapon damage stats. Let us assume our normal damage (Ndamage) = 2,000. This will mean that our critical damage (Cdamage) = 3,000. Cdamage = Ndamage * 1.5, such that Cdamage = 2,000 * 1.5 = 3,000. With Malacath's Band of Brutality (MBB) our damage will be lower because we cannot critical damage the enemy. This will reduce our damage to 2,500. MBBdamage = Ndamage * 1.25 = 2,000 * 1.25 = 2,500, such that MBBdamage = 2,000 * 1.25 = 2,500. Does this mean that Malacath's Band of Brutality is always worse? With this data, one would conclude that it always will be worse. However, if we take critical strike chance into account, this conclusion may change. Until now, we considered only one hit (N = 1). Now let us consider 100 hits (N = 100) and a critical strike chance of 50%. Meaning that every hit has the probability of critically striking of 0.5. If we approach N = ∞ (infinity), about 50% of ∞ (infinity) will critically strike. Therefore, we assume that of the 100 hits, 50% will critically strike. In real situations, this may be lower or higher. This means that with N = 100, 50 will critically strike. We will call these critical strikes Ncrit and the critical strike chance Cchance. This means that our total damage (Tdamage) will be 250,000. Tdamage = Ndamage * (N - Ncrit) + Cdamage * Ncrit = 2,000 * (100 - 50) + 2,500 * 50 = 250,000 with Ncrit = N * (1 - Cchance) = 100 * (1 - 50%) = 50 When we use Malacath's Band of Brutality and deal 25% more normal damage but cannot critically strike with 100 hits (N = 100), we get the same amount of damage: 250,000. Tdamage = MBBdamage * N = 2,500 * 100 = 250,000 This means that when our critical strike chance is 50%, the total damage is equal to the total damage when we wear Malacath's Band of Brutality and get 25% more normal damage but cannot critically strike. When we further evaluate both situations, we find that when our critical strike chance is greater than 50% our total damage is greater than the total damage wearing Malacath's Band of Brutality. However, when our critical strike chance is smaller than 50%, Malacath's Band of Brutality will outperform in terms of damage. When critical strike chance < 50%, Malacath's Band of Brutality outperforms relying on critical damage. When critical strike chance = 50%, the damage is equal. When critical strike chance > 50%, relying on critical damage outperforms wearing Malacath's Band of Brutality. These hypotheses, however, will need field testing to find evidence for them or reject them. Therefore, these statistics only give an estimated indication of the behaviour of the total damage but not an exact indication. Verdict: Malacath's Band of Brutality is only worth it when your critical strike chance is lower than 50%. Wearing Malacath's Band of Brutality when your critical strike chance is higher than 50% will result in lower performance than if we simply rely on critical striking the target.

Vampires are powerful creatures. Nobody can kill an already dead person. In this post we cover vampirism. First we will look at what vampires are in ESO. Second we will answer the question: How to become a vampire? Third we will analyse why you should become a vampire. Last we will cover the negative sides of being a vampire. What is a vampire? Vampires are not uncommon in The Elder Scrolls series. They play a large role in quests in Oblivion and Skyrim. This is not any different from The Elder Scrolls Online. In ESO (or TESO) vampirism can both be a burden and blessing. Being a vampire in ESO does not affect the story in any way. It functions as an extra skill tree within the skills system. It features powerful passives and access to two active abilities and an ultimate ability. Vampirism in ESO has four different stages increasing the severity of the negative effects of the disease, but also decreases costs of the abilities. This progress to the last stage (stage 4) happens over time. A vampire can feed to reduce the severity of the disease. How to become a vampire? In ESO there are two ways to contract vampirism: The first method is fighting NPC vampires. There is a small chance of becoming infected. This change supposedly is higher during full moon. The second method is to be bitten by a player who is a vampire. This player has to unlock the 'Blood Ritual' passive before being able to. A player can only bite another player every 7 days. You can find vampire shire (altar) locations on our Vampirism page. Why should I become a vampire? Undead cannot be killed, can they? Vampires are powerful and in The Elder Scrolls Online there is a reason for it. Their passive, active and ultimate abilities are very beneficial for magicka builds in certain situations. The ultimate ability: Bat Swarm and it's morphs increases survivability significantly. Especially the Devouring Swarm morph offers AOE damage and self-healing. Often tanky builds use this ability to have some time to breath and recover resources. Drain Essence is a special ability. Its morph Invigorating Drain is the only magicka ability that actively grants ultimate to the caster. It also is a stun and self-heal. Mist Form offers vampires a cleanse of all negative effects, but also increases movability on the field. It reduces damage taken by a stunning 75%. The trade-off is no magicka recovery and the caster cannot activate any ability while it is active. The passive abilities grant the player with more stamina and magicka recovery, reduced damage taken while under 30% up to 33% and ignore movement speed penatly while in sneak. Why should I not become a vampire? Vampires do not like daylight, and fire. The benefits of being a vampire do not come without cost. The severity of the disease becomes more significant every stage. Health recovery plummets and the damage taken from fire goes through the roof. A vampire has 75% less health recovery, although the Unnatural Resistance passive reduces that amount a little. The increased fire damage taken (up to 25% more) is a real pain in dungeons where a lot of fire damage is pressence (e.g. Bloodroot Forge and City of Ash). Another threath vampires encounter is the fact that they are Undead. The Fighters Guild skills and passives deal a massive amount of damage to Undead. Fighters Guild abilities can deal up to 20% additional damage to Undead enemies. Should I become a vampire?
It heavily depends on the situation. If you are going to do PVP, vampirism can be very beneficial. The pros do outweigh the cons in my personal experience. In PVE however this is very different. There is a lot of fire damage in dungeons and trials. If you decide to go vampire in PVE anyway, the best stage is stage 2. At that stage you will get all the benefits but less severe negative effects. The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion is iconic for its time. Especially glorified for the graphics, story and "fast travel" mechanics, it was a game that impressed many. Most memorable for most is the beautiful scenery in which the story took place, the scenery of Cyrodiil. In the Elder Scrolls Online we are back in Cyrodiil, although in an era before the story of Oblivion. The maps look very much alike, yet there are some noteworthy differences. Arrius Keep This keep of the Ebonheart Pact does not show any remains in the era of Oblivion. The only possible link is Lake Arrius. Which is located north of Cheydinhal. Blue Road Keep Yet again, Blue Road Keep is non-existant in the time the Oblivion crisis takes place. The road leading from the Imperial City to Cheydinhal is called The Blue Road, but that is the only reference to this keep. Drakelowe Keep This keep is located on the western side of The Reed River in ESO. It is the most southern home keep of the Ebonheart Pact. In Oblivion the remains of the keep are not to be found. Instead we find the settlement of Drakelowe. It is a tiny settlement, only containing one house and only one habitant called Melisande. Kingscrest Keep Located east of the Temple of the Ancestor Moths, Kingscrest Keep is the most northern home keep of the Ebonheart Pact. Remains of this keep are not found on the Oblivion map. Sejanus Outpost An outpost in ESO, but a medium-sized fort in Oblivion. Located south from Blue Road Keep it seems to have moved location for gameplay purposes. The remains found in Oblivion are located far more to the east than in the online version. Fort Ash A fort in both version of Cyrodiil. However the location of Fort Ash in the Online version seems to be at nearly, if not exactly, the same location of Fort Nikel in the Oblivion version. Which obviously was done for gameplay purposes. Fort Aleswell Once a magnificant keep in the Alliance War, only a small town or village in the Oblivion game. The town or village consists of only two houses. This wasn't always the case. Aleswel once was a large village but all villagers were evicted on pain of death by Grand Warlord Dortene of the Daggerfall Covenant. There are no remains of the fort to be found in the Oblivion game. Fort Dragonclaw The most northern fortification in The Elder Scrolls Online, only a rock in The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion. At this location the road looks like a dead end. However a road leads to the east, eventually leading you to the Serpent's Trail and Pale Pass. It ends at Fort Pale Pass, the entry way into Skyrim which we visit in the Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim. Fort Glademist Fort Glademist was abandoned after the Alliance War. Nothing remained of the fort and the only references one can find in the Oblivion game is the fact that it is located in the Glademist Fields area. In which Glademist cave is located, a cave network used by the Blackwood Company. Fort Warden No remains can be found of this fort in Oblivion. It probably was abandoned after the Alliance War, neglected and has fallen into ruins. Bleaker's Outpost This outpost is located between Chalman Keep and Fort Aleswell. The village of Bleaker's Way was first settled by Ulf the Bleaker. In the times of the Alliance War, the villagers were ordered to leave the village. Those who refused would be punished with death. During the war giants occupied the village. In Oblivion the village was reclaimed by men. There are no remains of Bleaker's Outpost in Oblivion. Castle Brindle The only remains of Castle Brindle in Oblivion is Brindle Home. Which is a village located between Chorrol and Skingrad. The location of Castle Brindle relative to Brindle Home seems to be far more south, probably for gameplay purposes. The castle seems to be located near The Gold Road, which connects Skingrad with the Red Ring Road around the Imperial City. Castle Bloodmayne There are no remains of Castle Bloodmayne in The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion. The only reference that can be found is Bloodmayne Cave, which also is a delve (mini-dungeon) in ESO. Castle Faregyl Castle Faregyl is a key location of the Aldmeri Dominion. The castle can not be found in the Oblivion. Instead we find Faregyl Inn, located west of The Green Road which leads from the Imperial City to Bravil. No remains of the castle can be found which was located on the east side of The Green Road. Castle Roebeck The castle of Roebeck is located perfectly on the map. However in Oblivion the castle is located near the White Rose River. This river could have formed after the era the Alliance War takes place in, because nothing of this river can be found in the Online version. There are some bridges to be found that cross dried up riverbanks. This could be the White Rose River. Nikel Outpost An outpost located south of Fort Ash and north-west of Castle Roebeck. In Oblivion we find the remains of this outpost in the form of a small fort. The location of Nikel is the most noteworthy. In Oblivion it is located next to the bridge leading into the Imperial City, west of the village of Weye. In the Online version the outpost is located far more south, near Fort Virtue on the Oblivion map. Did you find anything interesting in the Cyrodiil map with references to Oblivion or vice versa? Some addons just impove visuals. Other addons simply make the game better. Here are five addons you should use to improve your experience in the Elder Scrolls Online. Featuring Action Duration Reminder, RaidNotifier, Shissu's Guild Tools, Inventory Insight and AwesomeGuildStore. 1: Action Duration Reminder - by cloudor You are a brave person and visit dungeons very often. No matter whether you are a Damage Dealer (DD), Healer or Tank: Action Duration Reminder is a must have addon for any ESO player. Action Duration Reminder does exactly what you expect it to do. It shows a numerical timer on each (over time) ability you activate. Reminding you when your Damage over Time ability or Area of Effect ability has to be replaced on the boss. This addon is a nice addition to the game due to it improving your damage and skill rotation. 2: RaidNotifier - by Kyoma Many PVE guild participate in the weekly Trial. RaidNotifier is a nice addition to the game and warns you for any dangers that are ahead. Instead of having to rely on visuals or audio, RaidNotifier will warn you for any danger that may one-shot you. When a boss targets you, you get an on-screen notification that you are targeted by the boss. With this addon you will never be too late blocking or healing yourself through that most difficult part of the trial. 3: Shissu's Guild Tools - by Shissu Whether you run a guild or are high in rank, Shissu's Guild Tools will help you manage your guild. This addon has many features that are missing in the base game. The addon comes with a large list of improvements to the guild windows. Here is just a short list of the most useful and powerful tools this addon has to offer:
A full list of features can be found on the download page of the addon 4: Inventory Insight - by manavortex We've all experienced it: You have a few characters and you just want to rebuild one of them. You start looking for which gear you want to use. So, you start farming the gear or use the quick route of purchasing the gear in a guild store. After hours of farming or spending thousands of coins, you find out that you already own that set item you so desperately needed on another character. Luckily those times are over with Inventory Insight. This addon opens up a new window when you take a look inside your inventory, (guild) bank or guild store. In this window are all the items you own. You can filter them in categories or filter by text search. Hovering the item shows you how many of the item you own and which character or bank has the item. A must have that could save you hours of relogging to find that one item you had on that one character, but you don't remember on which. It also could save you hours of farming or prevent you from spending coin unnecessary. 5: AwesomeGuildStore - by sinrinsidiator
Everybody knows about guild store addons like Master Merchant (MM) by Philgo68 or Tamriel Trade Centre (TTC) by cyxui, but these addons are missing a crucial component. The addon that makes selling and buying items easy is AwesomeGuildStore. This addon, other than MM and TTC, does not show you prices or the amount sold this week or in the past 180 days. AwesomeGuildStores makes selling much easier by altering the listing screen in the guild store window. It allows you to set the quantity, unit price and total price, but also has options to set the price to an average or last sold price. The buying part of this addon is even greater. It allows you to filter the items in categories, eg. jewelry only or recipe only. Besides that you can filter the price range, Champion Points range, quality range, unit price range and even filter by text. And it doesn't end there. AwesomeGuildStore allows you to filter per armor/weapon/jewelry/etc. type, trait and enchantment. The addon can even filter out all the recipes and motifs you already know, so you can easily browse those items you can still learn on your character. AwesomeGuildStore is a must have addon to make coin, maybe even more important than having MM or TTC. Thus a highly recommended addon with more features on the download page. After playing hours upon hours of PVP in The Elder Scrolls Online, here is a list of 10 reasons why you shouldn't play PVP in ESO. Simply because of balance issues, broken sets and poor mapdesign. 1: Zerging The current meta only consists out of zerging. As a solo player or small group you don't stand a chance in any situation. The game is build around zerging only and massive combat. The only way of beating another raid is by having a larger raid than the enemy or time all your abilities to go off at the same time. 2. Abilities Due to the focus of the game being on zerging and large raids, only high damage AOE abilities are viable to run. Any other abilites are rendered useless. Especially single target abilities are useless to run when you face 50+ enemy players at once. Most used are Proximity Detonation, Eye of Flame and Sap Essence. Worst about these abilities is that they all follow the caster. While most other abilities are ground based and are totally neglected by most PVP raids due to their underwhelming performance in most situations. 3. Healing bots Yes, you read that right: healing bots. However these are not actual computer programs but players dedicated to healing and purging only. The game allows you to heal indefinately whilst being tanky at the same time. From own experience a healing bot is most often a Templar which is able to permablock whilst casting abilities. It also results into raids running permapurgers too. Rendering all damage over time into oblivion. 4. Blockcasting In the current version of the game (3.0.9) you are able to cast abilities whilst blocking. Which allows many classes and builds to be more tanky than ever intended. Especially healing bots benefit from blockcasting, since this allows them to reduce incoming damage whilst sustaining enough heals to survive massive damage. 5. Procsets Procsets have been semi-nerfed in the past by making them not able to critical damage. However many builds show that procsets are still overpowered in PVP. Dealing so much damage that most casual players won't even realise what hit them before turning into a pile of ash. For example the Worbels Revenge build by Fengrush shows how broken these sets are.
